Abstract:
Range is the place, where the functionality and capability of a missile is tested and proved. A missile test range provides assembly, integration and launch facilities for test firing of a missile. Test Range essentially provides data pertinent to missile health during preparation, launch and TSPI data for ensuring safety and capturing end-game of the missile, by deploying range instrumentation systems comprising radar, telemetry and electro-optic tracking systems. Integrated Test Range is a world-class Test Range, situated in Odisha coast, where the prestigious missiles of the country are demonstrated. This talk will broadly cover the test and evaluation of different types of missile systems including launch process, range instrumentation and trends and challenges in range technology. It will further highlight on mutual research interest towards futuristic missile programmes.
Speaker:
Dr. B K Das is Outstanding Scientist and Director of Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur, since 2015. Dr. Das has joined DRDO in 1987 and is an eminent scientist in the domain of performance evaluation of missiles, rockets and various other air-borne weapon systems. His areas of specializations include image processing, optics and VLSI for missile test and evaluation. He was pivotal in realization of complete electro-optic tracking system. Under his guidance and leadership, ITR has developed air-borne transponder, digital telemetry receiver, telemetry system for plasma mitigation and phased-array systems. During his tenure as Director, ITR has been awarded with DRDO Silicon Trophy for 2016 as best systems laboratory and Agni Award of Excellence for Self-Reliance for 2017.
Dr. Das has completed his PhD from IIT Kharagpur and has published more than 100 papers in various conferences and journals of national and international repute. He is the recipient of Lakshmipat Singhania-IIM, Lucknow National Leadership Award as the Young Leader of the country in Science and Technology for the year 2008. He was honoured as best presenter in 16th IASTED International Conference on Parallel and Distributed Computing and Systems held at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA in 2004 and also by ITEA in Albuquerque, New Mexico. For his outstanding contribution in the field of Electro Optics he has also been awarded with DRDO Scientist of the Year award in the year 2003.
