Fatigue mechanism (macro and micro aspects), fatigue properties and strength, concept of stress concentration factor, effect of residual stresses, total-life approaches (stress-life, strain-life, fracture mechanics), effect of notches, constant and variable amplitude loading (cycle counting, damage summation, etc), multi-axial fatigue theories. Special topics on fatigue in composites will also be covered.
