Aerospace Systems Health Monitoring and Diagnostics

 

Research in this field in our group aims to develop method and tools for analyzing sub-system and integrated systems response in ways, which can be further used in deriving systems health monitoring and diagnostics capabilities.

Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) is an emerging function/objectives in designing tomorrow's aerospace structures and other dependent sub-systems. Non-destructive evaluation based inspection of structures are indispensible method of monitoring structural health which forms the foundation of aerospace transportation safety and vehicular operations today. Based on this process, SHM is likely to bring significant shift in the ways structures and systems are designed. SHM in design is an integrated perspective and emerging areas of research. Autonomous monitoring and intervention remain futuristic concepts at present. Our research effort covers some of the associated problem areas as shown in the diagram below.
