Qualifications:
B.E (Mechanical Engineering), Sri Siddhartha Institute of Tech, VTU, 2009.
M.Tech (Aeronautical Engineering), MVJ College of Engineering, VTU, 2011.

Research Interests:
Micromechanics of Composite Materials, Damage and Fracture in Composites, Multifunctional Composites, XFEM, Impact Dynamics.

Research Descriptions:
Shashi is involved in modeling micro-mechanics based failure in composite materials subjected to high strain loading, which induces stiffness reduction followed by progressive damage accumulation. Finite element implementation of these models are under development in which energy based failure initiation followed the crack propagation using XFEM techniques are used. Objective of his research is to be able to predict complex mechanism of failure with minimum experimental data fitting and direct validation using macroscopic test samples. He is also working toward designing novel multifunctional composites in which smart materials and nano-composite material phases are intended to be used for improving material response under high velocity impact.
